The City Attorney’s Office invites applications for a Deputy or Assistant City Attorney, based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, versatile, and public-service-oriented attorney who performs well in a dynamic environment and exercises strong judgment when navigating complex legal matters. Experience in labor and employment law or litigation is desirable, and municipal law experience is helpful; however, attorneys from private practice or other public agencies with relevant, transferable skills and a genuine interest in public service are also encouraged to apply.
 
Deputy candidates will have at least two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney in California. Professional history for Assistant candidates will reflect five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a practicing attorney in California. Also requires a JD; must be an active member in good standing with the State Bar of California.
 
The Deputy salary range is $137,645 - $185,818. Assistant salary range is $177,543 - $239,696. Both positions offer competitive benefits and hybrid work schedule. Closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
